The Place
Le cadre, le debut du voyage
Once you are through the imposing oak doorway
you enter into a world of tranquility and beauty.
The Burgundy flagstone patio
welcomes you with a large table around which you can share a glass of Burgundian wine, surrounded by the plants and the soothing sounds of the fountain.
A bicycle shelter protects your bikes from the rain whilst the greenery
releases its summery perfume.
On your right upon entering is the salon where
you will have breakfast (8.30 to 10am). This is the "order and beauty'
which Baudelaire was talking about. The wax of the furniture and the polished
wood of the heated floor delicately perfume the room where the club armchairs
sit side by side the vast brown leather settee, with its expected comfort. As
the latter is movable it is up to you to decide whether you prefer to be in
front of the open fire or the flat-screen television. A beautiful zinc-topped
bar with a vine frieze, created by the coppersmith Paul MICHON stands in front
of the period Comblanchien stone mangers. An Austrian chandelier in gilded
bronze gently lights the room whilst paintings decorate the walls without
overloading them. The little extra: an antique baby high-chair for young
parents, and a large flat-screen TV.
On your left, a fully-equipped kitchen now
takes the place of what used to be a stable for mares. Next door are the
toilets. The little extra: local specialities as well as local wines and softs are available for a modest fee.
You will have understood that staying with
family is not the same as staying in a top hotel where each room is the same.
You are visiting rather, a museum of personally collected artifacts. For your
comfort bedrooms 2 & 3 are duplex, the bathrooms are on the ground floor
and the bedrooms upstairs.
Wherever Estelle can, new
investments are made for your comfort.
Striving to bring you the best service
possible, we can, at your request, do almost anything you wish for ( for which
a quote will be provided): for example:
- A personalised welcome; let us know your
exact arrival time and someone will be waiting to help you with your luggage
(delivered to your room) and to park your car in our secure garage.
What if luxury were time...
In whatever season you can stay and use Beaune
as a base for a few days without getting bored. The towns of Dijon, Autun, or
the market at Louhans on a Monday morning, stopping to taste the delicious dish
of Tête de Veau with a gribiche or ravigote sauce, have everything to tempt you
once you have had enough of your wine tastings.
